HanseMerkur Grundvermögen AG signs UN PRI
Commitment to the United Nations Guidelines for Responsible Investment
Hamburg, March 4, 2021. On February 1, 2021, HanseMerkur Grundvermögen AG signed the six United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). The company follows HanseMerkur and its other asset management subsidiary HanseMerkur Trust AG.
With this, HanseMerkur Grundvermögen AG commits itself to an investment behavior that takes into account the financial relevance of ecological and social criteria as well as questions of good corporate governance and paves the way to a more sustainable global financial system. The ESG criteria (Environmental, Social, Governance) already consider over 3,000 signatories from 60 countries in the international PRI network.
For the investment process, this means that HanseMerkur Grundvermögen AG will increasingly take the ESG sustainability criteria into account in its investments in the future. This addresses personal responsibility as well as social and customer expectations as well as political and regulatory requirements or changing opportunities and risks in real estate investments. Membership in the PRI association is also a commitment to a transparently verifiable sustainability orientation. Associated with this are an initial report on the status quo of the current real estate portfolio and an annual progress report. This checks whether the PRI signatories are following the development commitment towards more sustainability and how the investment portfolio is developing according to ESG criteria.
“After HanseMerkur Grundvermögen has already focused on sustainable real estate investments in previous years, with the signing of the UN PRI we are taking a further step towards a comprehensive sustainability orientation in real estate investments and in our asset management” says Lutz Wiemer, Deputy Chairman of the Board of HanseMerkur Grundvermögen AG. “By integrating ESG criteria even more closely into the investment process, we want to underline the added value for HanseMerkur and our co-investors.”
