A new Corona-Supplementary Insurance that protects HanseMerkur customers before and during a journey against the costs of a possible infection with Covid-19.
Hamburg, August 7th, 2020. As one of the first insurers, HanseMerkur is expanding its portfolio to include additional protection that covers the particular imponderables of the corona crisis both before the start of a journey and during the journey and at the holiday destination. The special corona travel protection includes cancellation and travel cost coverage if quarantine is ordered for the traveler at home or at the holiday destination due to a suspected corona. Should travelers have to cancel or extend their vacation they have already started due to quarantine, the Hamburg insurer will also reimburse the additional accommodation and return travel costs. The protection also applies in the event of a fever on the day of the outward or return journey, which means that vacationers cannot take their flight or cannot travel to their holiday home. Corona travel protection thus optimally complements the existing insurance products in order to offer comprehensive insurance cover from the possible quarantine at home to the delayed return journey.
The product can now be purchased by customers who already have travel cancellation insurance from HanseMerkur.
“Many cases that are related to the coronavirus are already included in our travel insurance. Pandemics such as Covid-19 are generally insured with us and insurance cover is also provided in the event of a travel warning, ”says Katrin Rieger, Department Director Travel Sales Germany at HanseMerkur. “Our new Corona travel insurance supplements these services by protecting travelers from additional costs that may arise in connection with a suspected coronavirus. Another plus of the product innovation is that it can be easily purchased, ”says Vera Scheuermann, Area Director Travel Sales International & Online about the additional protection.
