Hamburg, June 21, 2022

HanseMerkur Grundvermögen AG (HMG) has continued on its growth course in all areas even in times of the pandemic. In the past two years alone, the company has acquired properties with a value of around EUR 2.3 billion – including eight office properties each in the three-digit million range, for example the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Health in Friedrichstrasse in Berlin, the ‘F.A.Z Tower ‘ in Frankfurt / Main (headquarters of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) and the Trophy Landmark office building ‘Campus am Kunstpalast’ in Düsseldorf with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as a tenant.

The financing and investment business also grew strongly. In 2021 alone, subordinated loans and real estate financing with a volume of over EUR 800 million were granted.

The interest of potential investors has increased sharply over the past year – after Corona-related reluctance in 2020. The number of co-investors who invest in HMG’s real estate and/or financing funds together with HanseMerkur has now more than doubled to over 70. This is backed by equity commitments of over 1.2 billion euros.

The assets under management have increased tenfold since the company was founded. The HMG team, which now has over 100 members, currently manages assets of around 6 billion euros including financing.

Lutz Wiemer, Deputy CEO of HanseMerkur Grundvermögen explains: “Corona could not slow down our growth course. However, we are observing the various developments since the beginning of this year very closely. The significant increase in interest and inflation rates, the further massive increase in construction prices and of course the war in Ukraine and its consequences will also affect our industry. As an investor with strong equity capital, we see ourselves well prepared for future challenges and the planned further expansion.”
