How to properly care for dry hands
Cold, wind and dry heating air: In winter you should take extra care of your hands. As temperatures drop, the production of the skin’s own protective oils decreases. Washing your hands with hot water dries out the skin even more – the skin becomes cracked and brittle. That’s why you should apply a rich hand cream to your hands several times a day in winter.
Here are the tips laid out to care properly for skin on your hands during the colder months of the year.
-
Gentle hand bath
A bath is beneficial for stressed skin. First wash your hands thoroughly – the hand bath is not intended for hygienic cleaning. Mix 300 milliliters of buttermilk with two tablespoons of olive oil and warm briefly. Bathe your hands in this milky liquid for at least five minutes. Massage your nails, nail bed, fingers and hands. Then just pat the skin dry – do not rub – so that as many nourishing ingredients as possible can be absorbed.
-
Peeling against dead skin
A gentle peeling removes dead skin cells. Mix three tablespoons of coarse salt with one tablespoon of olive oil and massage it into your hands. Then apply cream to your hands so that they don’t dry out.
-
Hand cream keeps the skin supple
Keep one handy because the skin on your hands becomes cracked and wrinkled easily if it doesn’t get enough moisture. There are hardly any hairs or glands on the back of the hand, so the surface dries out quickly. There are no glands on the palms of your hands at all. That’s why you should regularly care for your hands with moisturizing cream.
-
Vaseline for extremely cracked hands
Vaseline nourishes the skin without irritating it or causing allergic reactions. It is suitable for sensitive skin and works excellently for particularly dry, cracked hands. Vaseline also nourishes stressed skin, such as chapped knuckles.
-
Urea binds moisture
Urea is the product of amino acid metabolism and occurs naturally on human skin. Due to its structure, urea attracts moisture from the air and holds it, so that the skin is moisturized. If urea is missing from the skin, this leads to dry skin. Therefore, if you have dry hands, use products containing urea.
-
Stay away from additives!
For your daily hand care, choose products without fragrances and, if possible, without allergenic preservatives. These additives can unnecessarily irritate your skin and cause allergies.
Skin care in the UAE
The UAE’s hot, dry climate and frequent use of air conditioning can lead to dry and cracked hands. Consistency is key to keeping your hands nourished and soft in the UAE’s challenging climate.
